47 Months Old

Just one month before our little man turns 4. It's unbelievable how fast he is growing up. Just this month we received the letter that he was accepted into the pre-K program for next year at the school I teach.

He's so inquisitive at this age. Although he has not started asking, "Why?" like so many toddlers do, he does inquire a lot in his own way. When he wants to know more he'll say, "Then what?" or "For what?" He likes to know what is going on and what the plan is.

So what else is new around here other than his fishing pole that he loves casting all the time?

Rocco wants to be a "real doctor." He's serious about this. Our little man may just follow in his daddy's footsteps and get a Biology degree one day. Or he may be like his mom and like Chemistry. Regardless, he believes that he can work wonders with his little doctor's kit. He'll listen to our heart, give us a shot, pump our arm and tell us our blood pressure is too high, and finally prescribe us medicine. The other day we were talking about baby Sydney being sick. His little ears overheard us and he said, "I can make her feel better!"

He continues to be so loving and affectionate. Jason and I kid around with him regarding who gets most of his love. The other night Rocco and I were in the bed getting ready to go to sleep. He leaned over, gave me kiss after kiss, rubbed my face, and told me, "Let's not tell daddy bout that!" That totally makes me laugh every time I still think about it.

His counting continues to grow. He does really well up until about 13. He starts skipping around; sometimes he'll even throw in "eleventeen." We just laugh and tell him there's no such thing. If you alternate the numbers and count with him, he can go all the way to 50. His big thing right now is adding like numbers. He will tell you that 2 +2 is 4, 5 + 5 is 10, and then he'll ask you what 8 + 8 is.

His new fascination is with Chuggington, a train show that just started on the Disney channel. We found him on the internet; the site has several games that he can play. It's funny how much Rocco knows about the computer. When he wants to play his game, he'll say, "Click on that little button," referring to the E internet button. Once I click on it, he knows to go to Favorites or the Yellow Star on the toolbar. While it's loading, he'll instruct us, "Hands off!" After he's played enough, he'll just click on the X. He's a little technology whiz.

Some may think he's a little too young for this, but he enjoys playing video games on the Wii. It's neat to sit back and watch him with the controller. He knows how to turn it on, choose his game, set it up for 1 player, and even "X" out when he's finished. Bowling is probably his best game, but he enjoys tennis, too. When he plays golf he thinks it is hilarious when he hits the ball in the water.

At night, he sometimes doesn't eat as much as we would like for him to at supper. He has a new habit where he likes to snack late at night. When I try to get him into bed, he'll look at me with those dark, brown eyes and beg, "I've got a little cramp in my tummy. I need a snack." I can't resist. I'll tip toe past daddy on the couch, grab him some fruit snacks or crackers and head back to the bedroom. (I was caught once. Jason said we can't keep doing it; he must learn to eat more at supper time.) He continues to get his bottle every night as he sleeps, and yes, he still loves to rub my mole while I read him a good night story.

He's learned a lot of nursery rhymes lately. He already knew Wee Willie Winkie, but his latest favorites are Fiddlee-De-Dee and One, Two, Buckle My Shoe. No matter how many rhymes or stories Jason or I read to him, he always asks, "Read me one more book."

Second Day in the Snow

Before the sun melted away our snow, we were determined to get all the fun that we could out of it. My nephew, who is 11 years old, has never seen a snow this big. Most of the snow that he has seen is just dusting on the ground and at the most one inch. That just goes to show how little snow we get around here in the south.

With three inches on the ground, we were all excited to see what snow activities we could get into! Rocco was just excited that "Drews" was coming over. Here are the two cousins bundled up and ready to go.

Best buddies

I believe this was the biggest snowman I've ever built. The snow was perfect! We started a ball and just rolled it down the hill. It packed on so much until I could barely move it. Rocco, Jason, Drew, and I built this cowboy snowman. He was edible, too!! Eyes:Oreos, Nose: Carrot, Mouth, Pretzels. As we were fixing up the final touches, I turned around to see Rocco eating cookie nose. Little man loves 'em! Thankfully, we had more Oreos.

Cowboy Frosty

Cowboy was a little lonely in the cold weather, so we built him a girlfriend. With Sweet Tarts for her mouth, a carrot for her nose, and Dum Dum suckers for her eyes, you could have eaten her, too. (Later we did settle for some homemade snow cream. Yum!)

Once our snowball fights ....

Snowball fight

and snow building were complete, we set off down the hill to an adjacent field that had not been touched. With a golf cart, a four wheeler, long rope, back board, and fresh snow, we were set! Drew had the time of his life sledding behind the four wheeler.

Then, I screamed my head off as Jason went super fast with me trailing behind.

Heather sledding

Jason, the much braver one in our relationship, stood up on the sled. He did really well "snowboarding."

full speed

Then, being the big kid that he is, he had to sling some snow.

Slinging snow

And for the grand finale, all I have to say is this..."Sturdy rope...$15. Four wheeler...$4500. Medical backboard...free when your relative is a paramedic. Your in-laws playing in the snow...PRICELESS!"

Go Granddaddy

Bet my in-laws are cooler than yours!!

Nana is sledding!

We had the most unbelievable, magical day. I thank the Lord for this wonderful snow. Having this much snow in our area is a miracle. But for now, the sun is out and the snow is quickly melting. So long snow! Hope to see you again soon!

Snow, Snow, Snow, Snow

If you are fans of Thomas the Train, you can read the lyrics and sing along as you take a look at our fun in the snow today.

You wake to the silence the bright afterglow.
Now there's a surprise for what do you know, it's snowing!

Look, it's snowing

Little Jack Frost has been busy last night
The Island of Sodor is a blanket of white

'Cause it's snowing. Yes, it's snowing!

snow 2-12-10 (10)

White winter wonderland

snow 2-12-10 (7)

Beautiful day! Snow, snow, snow, snow.
Snow, snow, snow, snow.

snow 2-12-10 (23)

There in the valley someone you'll know,
the little blue train finds his way to the snow.
Whistle blowing. Yes, it's snowing!
snow 2-12-10 (30)
It's a beautiful world; It's a lovely day. Cherish this moment;
remember this day 'cause it's snowing. Yes, it's snowing

snow 2-12-10 (27)

White winter wonderland. Beautiful day.
Snow, snow, snow, snow.
Snow, snow, snow, snow .

Daddy's Big Toy

The weather lately has been dreary, cold, and wet. The sun finally peeped through today, and we were blessed with a little warmth. As soon as I picked Rocco up from Carolyn's we came home and jumped on the trampoline. We were soon joined by daddy.

Then, Jason cranked up his new bobcat. Rocco went on his first ride.

After a while he was given the choice to jump some more on the trampoline or continue on his bumpy ride. Wonder what he chose?

Pre K Enrollment and A New Fishing Pole

Today was the big day. I registered Rocco for pre K. Even though I teach at the elementary school, he is not ensured a spot. The children are chosen through a drawing "lottery" system. I trust that all will go well and that he will be able to attend school here next year.

Carolyn brought him to school today for the big moment. I ordered out a special lunch for the three of us. He had a grilled cheese and fries.
When he came to school, he brought "a very important message" as he calls it. He had some necessary paperwork for his registration. He gave the power bill (proof of our residence) to the secretary. He had to climb onto the big step podium just to be tall enough.
When his daddy got home this afternoon, he had a surprise for him. It was a brand new fishing pole. His very first one. It had CARS on it. Jason bought a bumblebee bass boat this weekend. They have big plans to go fishing this spring while I take on my additional job...teaching a college course in the evenings. Little man was so proud of his new fishing pole. He kept casting it over and over and over. Here he is in his Thomas the Train "boat."
